Building Custodian (Temporary Part-time)
(INTERNAL/EXTERNAL)

The Town of Deep River is currently seeking a candidate to fill the position of Temporary Part-time Custodian. The building custodian assumes responsibility for the overall day-to-day cleaning and simple maintenance of Municipal buildings and offices as assigned; completes routine tasks including but not limited to:

  • Ensure all areas are clean and clear of hazards
  • Cleaning the floors; vacuuming carpets and dry/wet mopping floors
  • Cleaning and sanitizing that includes washrooms, common and entrance areas
  • Replenishing any used or missing supplies (toilet rolls, hand towels, hand soap)
  • Dusting all visible surfaces within reach which includes counter tops, pillars, lighting fixtures, window ledges and vents
  • Washing walls, light switches, windows and doors
  • Maintain clean, organized and safe work areas
  • Ensure the safety of visitors and staff
  • Use of hand tools to perform general maintenance functions relating to cleaning and be able to troubleshoot cleaning equipment
  • Follow applicable policies to ensure safe and effective function of the building and grounds and adherence to all operational and legislative codes

The successful candidate must be available to work shift work, flexible hours, weekends and demonstrate the ability to work independently and proficiently. Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Compensation for this position will be in accordance with the CUPE 740 Collective agreement with the potential for comprehensive benefits in accordance with the Collective Agreement. This is a union position represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 740.
