The County of Renfrew is committed to improving the safety and sustainability of transportation infrastructure throughout our area, while fostering our long-term economic growth. As part of this vision, the need to extend Highway 417 past the Town of Renfrew and enhance Highway 17 from Renfrew to Deep River has emerged as a top priority. Highway 417 currently transitions to a two-lane highway at Campbell Drive, creating significant safety risks due to the high traffic volumes from here to Renfrew. Additionally, from Renfrew to Deep River the high-traffic intersections impede the flow of goods and people through our County.

The extension of Highway 417 to Renfrew is long overdue and though we have seen commitments for its completion from the Province, we would like to see real results. Additionally, the remainder of Highway 17 continues to see higher volume of accidents, especially at key intersections along the corridor. The County has developed a strategic, phased, plan to address pressing safety concerns through innovative intersection improvements, mindful of future four-lane expansion. Together, we can ensure that this project not only creates a safer environment but also strengthens the economic fabric of Renfrew County by improving connectivity and supporting growth for generations to come.
