Mayor D’Eon was born and raised in Milton, Ontario. She graduated in 1983 from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Environmental Studies in Urban and Regional Planning. After three years working as a Planning Assistant with the Regional Municipality of Halton in Oakville, Sue married Steve and moved to Deep River where Steve, a forester, was employed by the Petawawa National Forestry Institute (PNFI).
Sue initially volunteered with, and was shortly after hired by, the Ministry of Natural Resources in Pembroke, to work in their Lands Division. Eventually rising to be the role of District Planner, Sue was responsible for the review of municipal official plans and zoning by-laws as well as land severances and plans of subdivision. In 1996, Sue left MNR and worked briefly for the County of Renfrew’s new 911 program before being hired by Atomic Energy of Canada, as their first Site Planner.
Sue worked for AECL and CNL for 21 years, primarily in the area of Site Operations, developing progressively more involved strategic plans for site consolidation and redevelopment, eventually managing the Site Planning & Property Management branch. Most recently Sue lead the groundwork for CNL’s new Asset Management Program before retiring in January 2018.
Sue served for several years with the Candu Swim Club as Clerk of Course for swim meets and Swimathon Coordinator. She also coached Junior Curling and was on the Board of the Deep River then Renfrew County, United Ways for many years. Sue and her husband have two grown daughters and a dog named Penny. In her free time you can often find Sue swimming at the pool, downhill skiing or cycling.
